Life and Health

Back to Summer 2024

From the ground up

Grande Ronde Hospital's 96,000-square-foot expansion project is nearing completion. Since breaking ground Aug. 31, 2022, we have watched the structure rise from that bare ground.

That day, GRH CEO Jeremy Davis told the crowd that the new facility was dedicated to healing and hope. His positive message for the future of health care in Union County was much needed after two years spent mired in a pandemic that impacted us all.

"We don't want health care in Union County to be a source of insecurity amidst a world of insecurity and conflict," he said, adding the day would not have been possible without both former and current employees. "We have been through a lot these past two years. Your unwavering commitment to this community is inspiring."

A labor of love

Over the following eight months, the steel structure taking shape in our front yard also took hold in the hearts of GRH employees. As we had gotten to know many of the Bouten team and the hardworking crew we saw every day, we began to share a unique perspective on the project.

In April of 2023, when the last steel beam was ready to be set in place, we celebrated that milestone with Bouten Construction with a special Topping Out ceremony. The week before, many had come to sign the special "Topping Out" beam, leaving their mark on local health care history.

Completion of the new building is set for September of 2024. At that time we will celebrate with our community with a ribbon cutting, tours, good food, fellowship and fun. It will be the final opportunity to explore the new 23,000-square-foot Surgical Services floor before it is only open to patients and staff.
