Reading together

The Oregon Trail Electric Co-op and the Grande Ronde Hospital Foundation recently teamed up to enhance the GRH Healthier Together initiative with OTEC's "Books for Babies" campaign. One hundred new Imagination Library subscriptions were donated and will go to families with new infants. Each family receives a bag with a book, a "Welcome, Baby" postcard and some information on Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

Dolly Parton's mission of encouraging parents to read to their children to inspire a love for reading and support brain development in young children led to her creating the Imagination Library in 1995. The Imagination Library has donated more than 190 million books to children in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and other countries.

The GRH Foundation believes partnering with community organizations, such as the Oregon Trail Electric Co-op, for a common cause is a fantastic opportunity. The partnership of the Foundation's Healthier Together initiative and OTEC's "Books for Babies" campaign strengthens early childhood education and helps kids get a head start on reading.
