Life and Health
Back to FY2022 Community Benefit Report
From our CBO
As I look back on the history of Grande Ronde Hospital & Clinics (GRH) and our
Community Benefit activities and initiatives, I am amazed by all we have accomplished since 1907. We continue to serve our community by providing health care at home and upholding our mission. As a not-for-profit hospital, it is our duty to give back to our community. We proudly do so with our community's help every three years in determining top health care needs.
In the words of Margaret Mead, American cultural anthropologist, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Our Community Benefit work is reflective of Ms. Mead's sentiments. Union County is blessed to have passionate citizens who truly care about the lives of others, including their families, friends and neighbors. But more importantly, they care for those they may not even know.
The pandemic forced all of us to pause. Our lives, as we knew them, will never be the same. What I have seen, time and again, during these challenging few years, is the grace people give to others. One place I see this highlighted is through the Eastern Oregon Community Resource Network (EOCRN). The EOCRN is an online network serving Union, Baker and Wallowa counties, by matching needs with resources. What does this mean, you ask? It may be a homeless veteran who has cell coverage through his military service, but his phone is broken and he has no resources to buy another one. It may be a young athlete who wants to play football, but his family does not have the resources to buy a pair of cleats. Or it may be a grandma who is the caregiver for her grandchildren and needs a washing machine. I know because I was able to be part of these opportunities to help others.
Today, I thank the small group of thoughtful, committed citizens in Union County whose work it is to help others. I am proud to know you and serve beside you. I encourage others to join us in our community benefit efforts, whether by completing our tri-annual survey, seeking a grant to help fulfill unmet needs or joining the EOCRN. We can change the world.
