Welcome, Dr. Mathis!

James Mathis, MD, is our newest orthopedic surgeon

Grande Ronde Hospital and Clinics (GRH) is thrilled to introduce Orthopedic Surgeon James Mathis, joining our esteemed Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic. With an impressive 21-year career in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Mathis brings a wealth of experience and a personal touch that promises to be a great asset to our community.

He's a distinguished member of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, among others. But what truly sets him apart is his unwavering dedication to his patients.

His approach to care

"For me, orthopedics is about making a tangible difference in people's lives," says Dr. Mathis. "There's nothing more rewarding than helping someone overcome chronic pain and get back to the activities they love."

His commitment to patient care is evident in the way he builds strong, trusting relationships. Dr. Mathis is known for his thorough and compassionate approach, ensuring each patient feels informed and comfortable.

"My goal is to treat every patient as if they were my family member, to relieve any anxiety they may have, and to provide excellent care for the best possible outcomes," he explains.

When patients in the Houston area found out he was relocating, they quickly made appointments to get in to see him before he left.

Settling into the community

The move to the Grande Ronde Valley is the realization of a dream for Dr. Mathis and his wife, who have always wanted to settle in a small community in the Pacific Northwest.

"When we visited GRH, we were immediately impressed by the hospital and clinic staff, as well as the facility's commitment to providing excellent patient care," he recalls. Union County provided the ideal community and practice environment.

Dr. Mathis is not only looking forward to building relationships within the hospital but also to immersing himself in Union County. An avid outdoor enthusiast, he's eager to explore the region's hiking trails, golf courses, and ski slopes. Fly fishing and hunting are also on his list of activities to dive into, along with spending quality time with his wife, their four children, and their three dogs.

As Dr. Mathis settles into his new role, he is already accepting new patients and is eager to start making a positive impact. He will be providing care on the new surgical expansion floor, set to open this fall.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Mathis to the Grande Ronde Hospital and Clinics and Union County. His expertise, compassionate approach, and genuine passion for patient care make him a valuable asset to our community.
