To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Grande Ronde Hospital Foundation has partnered with the La Grande Country Club to host an expanded version of northeast Oregon’s premier golf classic—with more action than ever.
This year, golfers in the Amateur will have the option to compete on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Golfers just need to play two out of the three days between September 12 and 14 at the La Grande Country Club. On Sunday afternoon, for the first time ever, there will be two Sole Survivor competitions based on gross score. One division will feature a single-player competition, while the other division will showcase two-person teams. Also, new to the Amateur, senior players (60 and older) can play from the shorter tees and will be eligible for the two-person Sole Survivor competition. These changes will make the 2014 Amateur as competitive as possible for the largest number of golfers.
Other prizes will be awarded for longest drive, straightest drive and closest to the pin. Legacy Ford will once again be generously sponsoring the Hole-in-One Challenge.
The Amateur is the longest-running individual stroke play event in the region. We are grateful to corporate sponsors Legacy Auto Group in La Grande and Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. of Eastern Oregon. We would also like to thank the many individuals and businesses that have generously donated to make this event possible.
This year, 100 percent of the fundraising will go toward the purchase of advanced patient care equipment at Grande Ronde Hospital. Proceeds from the golf tournament will purchase two wireless transducers for antepartum fetal monitoring in the Family Birthing Center and a ventilator for the Respiratory Therapy Department. These projects would not be possible now without the Foundation’s support.
