The odds of detecting breast cancer sooner have never been better. We are so pleased to offer the latest in mammography exam technology: the Genius™ 3D Mammography system by Hologic. This system provides 41 percent better detection of invasive breast cancers and reduces false positives by up to 40 percent, which has been confirmed here at Grande Ronde Hospital (GRH) as a result of the state-of-the-art 3D mammography technology.
The first of two machines debuted in the Radiology Department of the Hospital in January. The second machine—funded with the assistance of the GRH Foundation—has been installed in the Women’s Clinic located in the Regional Medical Plaza. The second machine is expected to be up and running shortly. Troy Juniper, Radiology Department Manager, says, “Between the relocation of the second system to the new Women’s Clinic, and the new technology these units bring, GRH continues to advance its ability to provide quality care. It is amazing to look back to 1987 when we placed our first analog film screen mammography system. Much has changed.”
The American Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms after age 45, and sooner if you have an increased risk. If it’s time for your exam, we encourage you to take a moment and schedule your 3D mammogram today.
We are so proud to provide the Grande Ronde Valley and beyond with the latest technology in mammography exams. As Maynard Bronstein, MD, of the Hematology and Oncology Clinic, says, “Early detection is one of our best weapons against cancer—mammograms save lives.”
