Casey Nichols, FNP-BC, DCNP, received her master of science degree in nursing/advanced registered nurse practitioner in 2006 from the University of Florida. In 2013, she successfully obtained credentialing as a dermatology certified nurse practitioner (DCNP).
The DCNP certification is awarded to those who successfully meet the eligibility requirements and pass a rigorous written examination. According to the Dermatology Nursing Certification Board, in order to be eligible to even sit for the DCNP exam, candidates must first meet the following criteria:
- Obtain a master's degree in nursing
- Hold current nurse practitioner (NP) state licensure
- Achieve national certification as an NP
- Log a minimum of 3,000 hours of recent NP practice with a current practice in dermatology
In addition, the certification is valid for a period of three years, but recertification may be attained through contact hours of continuing education credit or by examination. Part of any employment agreement with Grande Ronde Hospital is obtaining or maintaining required certifications.
