If you ask Adam Heisinger, DO, what he loves about his job, one of the things he'll probably mention is working with athletes.
Dr. Heisinger, a skilled orthopedic surgeon for the GRH Specialty Clinic, has a unique role within our sports community. He's passionate about working with athletes and serves as the Eastern Oregon University (EOU) Team Physician—or "Team Doc"—coordinating sports medicine care with EOU's team of athletic trainers.
A medical MVP
The Team Doc is crucial to the success of a collegiate athletic department, allowing the athletic training team to work directly with a physician in cases of acute or chronic injuries that require a diagnosis, surgery, or a specialized treatment plan. Prompt evaluation and treatment of an athlete's injuries allow them to spend less time on the sidelines and more time doing what they love—and what they do best.
"Athletes are very competitive, and they want to get back on the playing field as quickly as possible," says Liz Flom, Assistant Athletic Trainer, EOU. "Sometimes they're hesitant to trust somebody who doesn't understand or know their goals. Dr. Heisinger is great about understanding the athlete's needs—from cross-country all the way to football. He knows the demands of the sport, he knows what the athlete's goals are, and he does everything possible to support that."
Although Dr. Heisinger spends time working specifically with high-functioning, specialized athletes, he's passionate about all athletes—no matter their age or skill level. He completed a specialized sports medicine fellowship with Orthopaedic Research of Virginia, providing him with the skills to care for our athletes in Union County and beyond.
