Doing great things—together

Fiscal year 2019 was a busy one for Community Benefit at Grande Ronde Hospital. Starting in 2018, the Hospital enlisted the services of the Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio to help us conduct our Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). This was the collaborative work of a group of community leaders, partners and stakeholders who came together to create the survey tool, assess the results and determine the community need focus areas for the next three fiscal years. In 2019, the Hospital adopted the new CHNA and associated Implementation Strategy (IS) for fiscal years 2020–2022. I am excited to report the Hospital and several other community partners will be working collaboratively on the following areas of need within our community:

  • Social determinants of health
  • Behavioral health well-being

Additional information on the CHNA, our IS and other supporting documents surrounding our Community Benefit work are available on our website at grh.org/communitybenefit.

Please take time to read through this annual report. It highlights the Hospital's financial assistance program—a key resource for our patients. As a not-for-profit independent hospital, it is part of our mission to help patients in need of our services to access necessary medical care. The financial assistance program is the means to assist with the financial burden and ensure our patients receive care regardless of their ability to pay. The Hospital is lucky to have a ROCK STAR team of financial counselors who care about our patients and community and work hard to help connect patients with resources. Help us spread the word about our financial assistance program.

To quote Mother Teresa, "You can do what I cannot do. I can do what you cannot do. Together we can do great things." Community partnerships are the catalyst to accomplishing great things. I continue to be wowed by the work being done by community partners to help vulnerable populations within our community. There are many groups and individuals who care a great deal about Union County and strive every day to make it a better place to live. I am proud to work with these groups and individuals. THANK YOU for your time and energy!
