Current Visitor Guidelines

You will still be asked to wear a mask when in our facilities. COVID-19 restrictions remain in place at hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state of Oregon as of March 12, 2022.
Adult Patients-Inpatient: May have two visitors age 12+ at a time; switching is allowed.
Clinic Patients: Two visitors age 12+; switching is allowed.
Adult Patients-Special Circumstances: Patients with physical, cognitive, intellectual, and/or developmental disabilities may have up to three designated support persons, but only allowed one support person who may accompany them throughout the facility.
Patient Receiving End-of-Life Care: Two visitors are allowed to be with a patient who is receiving End-of-Life Care. Additional visitors may be allowed to visit.
Minor (pediatric) Patients (<18 yrs): Up to two adults may be present at the same time in both hospital and outpatient setting; switching is allowed.
Minors must be accompanied by an adult 18+.
If you need medical care and have mild to severe respiratory illness, cough with fever, or shortness of breath, please call ahead to discuss next steps. We may have additional instruction to prevent the spread of all respiratory illness.

COVID-19 vaccine availability at GRH Clinic locations

We are open and ready to help. While COVID-19 is new, preparing for responses to public health issues, medical emergencies, and disasters is not new to our hospital. In fact, emergency preparedness training is a year-round activity that is done within our hospital and clinic system. We take preparedness seriously 365 days a year. We're taking every possible safety precaution, including separating patients with possible COVID-19 or other infectious illness from others. Our hospital has special negative pressure spaces, keeping patients isolated from those who need to remain healthy. Please continue to seek the care you need, emergent or otherwise.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Grande Ronde Hospital & Clinics has striven to follow the applicable recommendations by the CDC, OHA, CMS, and Union County to keep our patients and staff safe. As of May of 2022 our visitor policy was relaxed to allow for increased public satisfaction, as well as continued infectious disease control.

Update on Masking Requirements

While Oregon’s mask mandates for schools and most indoor public settings will be lifted March 12, 2022, the Oregon Health Authority requires mask mandates to stay in place for Oregon health care settings. Please continue to wear a mask while in our hospital or one of our clinics. Please be patient with our frontline staff and screeners.

Union County has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases over the past week. This increase could be a post-holiday bump, but it is also likely that the highly transmissible Omicron variant is driving this increase in infections. Today we are reporting 102 cases from the weekend, and last week’s total was 128. If forecasting for the next month is accurate this is just the beginning of a surge that could be unlike any we have experienced thus far. (READ MORE)

COVID-19 Hospitalized Patients in July and August 2021

There have been questions recently regarding the vaccination rate of hospitalized COVID-19 patients here at GRH. We hope this infographic is helpful information for our community. Thirty COVID-19 patients were admitted and cared for throughout the months of July and August. All of them were unvaccinated patients and a greater percentage of them were under the age of 65. Of those 30, 16 were in ICU and five of those in ICU required ventilators.

ALERT: OHA Cancels 8/31 Testing Event

The Oregon Health Authority has cancelled the COVID-19 testing event scheduled for this morning, August 31, in the La Grande Bi-Mart parking lot. They have canceled several events across the state today due to technical difficulties with their pre-registration process.

GRH activates HICS due to community-wide COVID-19 surge in cases and announces community-wide testing event

Today, Grande Ronde Hospital and Clinics activated our Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) under our emergency operations planning due to the current surge of COVID-19 cases in our community. We have been monitoring our daily census and bed capacity needs closely, as well as the statewide shortage of testing supplies. Both situations are presenting logistical challenges and causing strain on our capacity to serve our community.

Under Incident Command, we have been working with our local partners at Union County Emergency Management Services and our Public Health Department for assistance from the Oregon Health Authority for a mass community testing event for Union County. Union County, Oregon — Center for Human Development (CHD) public health is reporting an increase in COVID-19 cases this week. Cases have more than doubled when compared with last week and so far are the highest we have seen in one week since early February. This is a trend that is being seen statewide and nationally. Our test positivity rate has also increased, which means there may be more people with coronavirus in the community who have not been tested yet. Most of the people testing positive are cases of community spread, meaning they are not sure how or where they became infected. (READ MORE)

Less than 18 months later, we have a variety of coronavirus treatment options and new vaccines. We are experiencing a downward trend in the numbers of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. The best news may be that as of June 30, most of Oregon is able to fully open. Health care, however, is one of the industries excluded from the lifting of restrictions. Beginning June 11,^,2021, COVID-19 vaccine clinics will be conducted as walk-in clinics onsite at the Center for Human Development (CHD) located at 2301 Cove Avenue, La Grande, Oregon 97850. Previously scheduled second dose booster appointments on June 11^th, 18^th, and 25^th will still be honored but performed at CHD.

Moving forward primary and unscheduled booster doses will be available on a first come, first serve, walk-in basis while supplies last on Fridays from 2:00PM-4:00PM starting June 11, 2021.

If you are interested in getting vaccinated at these upcoming walk-in clinics you can expedite the process by filling out your registration online at www.chdinc.org/gv and can arrive anytime during the designated clinic hours. If you do not preregister by 3:00PM the day before the clinic, you can fill out your registration onsite when you arrive.

Grande Ronde Hospital received its first 200 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, December 23 for frontline workers. First vaccines were administered by infection preventionist/employee health nurse Amy Miles, RN, within hours of receipt. GRH Update on Potential Workplace Outbreak

Union County is experiencing a second community-wide outbreak of COVID-19 that appears to be more organic and wide spread than we experienced last June. It has now impacted our workforce at Grande Ronde Hospital and Clinics (GRH). We fully anticipate GRH will be added to the weekly reporting from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) as a workplace outbreak for meeting the minimum threshold of cases for OHA reporting. We anticipate little disruption to our services at this point, as we are monitoring and managing staffing levels to compensate as needed. Changes to GRH visitor policy effective 11-13-20

Today, five new COVID-19 cases were announced for Union County bringing the total to 347. Of this total, 20 have recovered. Union County has had a total of 1,704 negative tests processed. Wallowa County has a total of 10 positive cases, one listed as recovered, and 432 negative tests processed. Oregon Health Authority announced 375 new cases today in the state of Oregon, bringing the state-wide total to 9,294. The Union County Incident Management Team (IMT) will be transitioning the COVID-19 incident response back to Center for Human Development (CHD) Public Health tomorrow, July 3. We understand there’s significant concern regarding the recent outbreak in our county. Let us reassure you, Grande Ronde Hospital and Clinics (GRH) is prepared to handle what may come our way in the next several weeks, and have been preparing for significant numbers since early March.

We initiated our Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) on March 2nd, using the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS). HICS is a system we have used for many years for planning, preparing, training and mitigating all types of emergencies. In early March, GRH and our Union County Emergency Services (UCES) were advised of Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Oregon Health Authority (OHA) modeling that showed a potential massive influx of COVID-19 cases that could impact our communities. We began to prepare for a worst case scenario under planning, operations, logistics, communications and more. For example, we began assessing and procuring the necessary Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) our staff would need to treat an influx of patients. We constructed and have used an onsite decontamination room that allows us to significantly extend the life of our N95 mask supply. We continue to take our role as stewards of the supplies we have seriously. In addition, even though we are a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital, we are licensed to increase our capacity for up to 40 acute care hospital patients during an emergency such as this. We have also developed an alternative care site at the GRH Pavilion and are prepared to staff that for at least 160 patients who may still need nursing care, but are transitioning to going home.
