General Surgeon Richard Holecek, MD and Urologist Patrick McCarthy, MD, have both been named Distinguished Physician of the Year for 2010 by their peers at Grande Ronde Hospital.

Dr. McCarthy and Dr. Holecek were honored during the hospital’s Board of Trustees Annual Banquet held Friday, Dec.10 at the Blue Mountain Conference Center. Both physicians were presented with commemorative plaques by Medical Staff President Dr. Susan Rice and Hospital Board Chair Lynn Harris, DMD. In addition, their names will be added to a perpetual plaque that hangs in the physician’s lounge at Grande Ronde Hospital.

The tie vote for 2010 was revealed during the Annual General Staff meeting held in November, at which time Dr. McCarthy and Dr. Holecek also received engraved rosewood pens in addition to the plaques.

The Distinguished Physician of the Year award was an idea that sprang from conversations held among members of the Hospital’s Medical Staff wanting to recognize those from among their ranks who had stood out over the year for their commitment to providing quality care to patients, leadership for their peers, as well as their willingness to selflessly serve others.
