Richard Haddock, M.D. was recently honored by his peers with the Grande Ronde Hospital Distinguished Physician of the Year award for 2008.

Haddock (shown left) was chosen unanimously for his dedication to patient care through assisting surgeons who often rely on a second pair of hands during surgery.

“It is a real honor to be recognized like this,” Haddock said, upon receiving the award.

Michael McQueen, M.D., (right) the 2008 Medical Staff Chair, said Haddock is dedicated, dependable and rarely unavailable for that emergency surgery call day or night.

“Dr. Haddock is a tremendously valuable asset to the hospital and our surgery department – especially our OB physicians,” added Yvette Mulvany, medical staff services.

After Haddock retired from approximately 25 years in private practice here in La Grande, he began his second career as a surgical assist at Grande Ronde Hospital. He now holds the distinction of being the first recipient of the new Distinguished Physician of the Year award.

In addition to the individual walnut plague given to Haddock, a picture of the current honoree will be displayed next to a perpetual plaque in the physician’s lounge at the Hospital. Each year the physicians will choose one of their peers to honor and that name will be added.
