Thanks to a generous donation, care is more convenient than ever
The gift from anonymous donors to the GRH Foundation has ensured a new service at GRH Urgent Care that benefits an entire region. The donors wanted to "do something good" after reading a previous Life & Health article about fundraising efforts for an x-ray machine for Urgent Care. The couple believed on-site x-ray at the new Urgent Care location would be advantageous for county residents and visitors to the area alike.
After waiting for COVID-19 restrictions to lift and COVID-19 patient numbers to decrease, the room originally dedicated to imaging services when the facility opened in September 2020 is now open for x-ray needs.
In March, the Philips DigitalDiagnost x-ray system went into service. Technicians are able to serve Urgent Care patients in-house, rather than sending patients to the hospital if an x-ray is needed. The new x-ray machine has distinct advantages over its near identical colleagues at the hospital and orthopedic clinic, with movable and adjustable imagers, sensors, arms and motors. It also has a detachable, wireless detector plate called SkyPlate that allows the technician to look at the image on screen, making it easier to take the best picture the first time.
Urgent Care Manager Jana Green says patients are very happy about the added convenience and time savings.
"It's not that our hospital and ER are hard to access; they aren't. But this is another convenient care option for our patients when they come to Urgent Care. They literally can pull right up to the front doors and walk in," says Green.
Foundation says 'thank you' and plans return to in person events
Foundation Manager Patrick Flynn expressed gratitude on behalf of Grande Ronde Hospital and Clinics for the largest non-real estate gift in GRH Foundation history.
"We are incredibly thankful for this couple's amazing gift," he says. "This added service is a huge benefit to the care we provide for Union County."
Flynn went on to say that the Foundation is excited about a fundraising event in June, which marks a return to in-person events for the first time since the annual Gala was canceled in March 2020. On June 25, the Foundation will host "Eastern Oregon Hot Summer Night" at the La Grande Drive-In—featuring exclusive food and drinks, entertainment, an online auction, and much more. The setting will remind attendees of summers past, and fun or creative dress is encouraged.
